How this is worked out: Dec 24 is a fixed date. Oct 8 to Oct 31 = 23 days, November = 30, then 24 into December: 23 + 30 + 24 = 77. Dec 25 2026 is a Friday (Jan 1 2026 is a Thursday, Dec 25 is day 359, 358 mod 7 = 1 day later), so Dec 24 is a Thursday.

Example 2. Inputs:

Results:

  • Next Christmas Eve: Thursday, December 24, 2026
  • Weeks and days: 0 weeks, 0 days
  • Note: Christmas Eve is the day you picked, so there are 0 days to go.

How this is worked out: The count date is Dec 24 itself, so the count is 0 and the date does not move to next year.

Example 3. Inputs:

Results:

How this is worked out: Dec 24 2026 is one day gone, so the next is Dec 24 2027. Dec 25 2026 to Dec 25 2027 is 365 days (no Feb 29 in 2027), minus 1 = 364.

Where this comes from

The next time a month and day comes round. Finds the next time a month and day comes round, on or after the start date. If the start date is that day, there are 0 days to go. A February 29 date is observed on February 28 in a year that is not a leap year.
