Results:

How this is worked out: Nov 1 2026 is a Sunday (Jan 1 2026 is Thursday, Nov 1 is day 305, 304 mod 7 = 3, Thursday + 3 = Sunday). Thursdays: 5, 12, 19, 26. The 4th is Nov 26 (Thanksgiving), so Black Friday is Nov 27. Oct 8 to Oct 31 = 23, plus 27 = 50.

Example 2. Inputs:

Results:

  • Days until Black Friday: 0 days
  • Black Friday: Friday, November 27, 2026
  • Thanksgiving (day before): Thursday, November 26, 2026

  • Note: Black Friday is the day you picked, so there are 0 days to go.

How this is worked out: The start date is Black Friday 2026 itself, so 0 days.

Results:

  • Thanksgiving (day before): Thursday, November 25, 2027
  • Weeks and days: 51 weeks, 6 days

How this is worked out: Nov 1 2027 is a Monday (Nov 1 2026 Sunday + 365 days = +1 weekday). Thursdays: 4, 11, 18, 25; Thanksgiving Nov 25, Black Friday Nov 26 2027. 2026-11-28 to 2027-11-28 is 365 days, minus 2 = 363.

Results:

  • Days until Black Friday: 1 day
  • Black Friday: Friday, November 23, 2018
  • Thanksgiving (day before): Thursday, November 22, 2018

How this is worked out: Nov 1 2018 is a Thursday (back from Nov 1 2024 Friday: 2023 Wednesday, 2022 Tuesday, 2021 Monday, 2020 Sunday, 2019 Friday, 2018 Thursday; the step is 2 weekdays across Feb 29 2024 and Feb 29 2020). Thursdays: 1, 8, 15, 22. Thanksgiving is Nov 22 and Black Friday is Nov 23 2018, the earliest it can be. Counting from Thanksgiving itself gives 1 day.

Limitations

  • Uses the US Thanksgiving rule (fourth Thursday of November). Canadian Thanksgiving is in October and is not used.
  • Counts whole calendar days and ignores time zones and the time of day.
