Count the days until the next April 1, from today or any date you choose. You fill in these fields: Count from. It shows days until April 1, next April 1, and weeks and days.

  1. Pick a date for "Count from".
  2. Read the result: days until April 1, next April 1, and weeks and days. It appears once every required field has a valid value.

Worked examples

Example 1. Inputs:

  • Count from: October 8, 2026

Results:

  • Days until April 1: 175 days
  • Next April 1: Thursday, April 1, 2027
  • Weeks and days: 25 weeks, 0 days

How this is worked out: April 1, 2026 is already past, so the target is 2027-04-01. Oct 8 to Oct 31 = 23, Nov 30, Dec 31, Jan 31, Feb 28 (2027 not leap), Mar 31, plus 1 for Apr 1: 23+30+31+31+28+31+1 = 175. Weekday: Jan 1 2027 is a Friday (Jan 1 2026 is a Thursday, plus 365 days), April 1 is 90 days later, 90 mod 7 = 6, Friday + 6 = Thursday.

Example 2. Inputs:

  • Count from: April 1, 2026

Results:

  • Days until April 1: 0 days
  • Next April 1: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
  • Weeks and days: 0 weeks, 0 days
  • Note: April 1 is the day you picked, so there are 0 days to go.

How this is worked out: The start date is itself April 1, so the count is 0 and the date is the same day.

Example 3. Inputs:

  • Count from: April 2, 2026

Results:

  • Days until April 1: 364 days
  • Next April 1: Thursday, April 1, 2027
  • Weeks and days: 52 weeks, 0 days

How this is worked out: 2026-04-02 to 2027-04-02 is 365 days (no Feb 29 in between), so one day earlier, April 1, is 364 days.

Example 4. Inputs:

  • Count from: March 31, 2026

Results:

  • Days until April 1: 1 day
  • Next April 1: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
  • Weeks and days: 0 weeks, 1 day

Where this comes from

The next time a month and day comes round. Finds the next time a month and day comes round, on or after the start date. If the start date is that day, there are 0 days to go. A February 29 date is observed on February 28 in a year that is not a leap year. Limitations

  • Counts to April 1 only, each year. An event held on a nearby weekday or weekend instead is not accounted for.
  • Counts whole calendar days and ignores time zones and the time of day.
  • Uses the Gregorian calendar for every date, for years 1 to 9999.

Q: What if the date I count from is April 1?
A: The tool shows 0 days and says so. It does not skip ahead to next year.
Q: What if April 1 has already passed this year?
A: It counts to April 1 of the following year.
