What this checklist covers

The list has 4 groups and 14 items.

  • Screen and workspace (4 items): Calibrate your monitor with a colorimeter, or confirm a recent calibration; Check that monitor brightness suits the room lighting; Set up consistent workspace lighting and avoid glare on the screen; Disable notifications and distractions
  • Computer and software (5 items): Close unnecessary applications to free up memory; Review editing software preferences and color space settings; Check that the scratch disk has enough free space; Create or select suitable export presets; Set up keyboard shortcuts for common editing tasks
  • Files and backups (3 items): Check that backup drives are connected and have enough space; Import new photos into your editing software catalog; Back up the original RAW files before editing
  • Before you start (2 items): Prepare reference images or mood boards if needed; Take a short break and rest your eyes before intensive work

Tip: A calibrated monitor and a distraction-free workspace help you judge color accurately. Ticks are saved on this device.
