How this is worked out: 12 months is the same day next year. Oct 8 2026 to Oct 8 2027 is 365 days (no Feb 29 between), 365 = 52 weeks + 1 day, so Thursday becomes Friday.

Example 2. Inputs:

  • Start date: February 29, 2024

Results:

  • 12 months from the start date: Friday, February 28, 2025
  • Date: February 28, 2025
  • Day of the week: Friday
  • Days moved: 365

How this is worked out: Feb 29 does not exist in 2025, so the date is clamped to the last day of the month, Feb 28 2025. Feb 29 2024 to Feb 28 2025 is 365 days; Feb 29 2024 is a Thursday, +1 = Friday.

Example 3. Inputs:

  • Start date: March 15, 2023

Results:

  • 12 months from the start date: Friday, March 15, 2024
  • Date: March 15, 2024

Example 4. Inputs:

  • Start date: February 28, 2023

Results:

  • 12 months from the start date: Wednesday, February 28, 2024

How this is worked out: The same day number is kept, so the last day of February 2023 gives Feb 28 2024, not Feb 29. Feb 29 2024 falls after the result, so the span is 365 days = 52 weeks + 1 day. Feb 28 2023 is a Tuesday, so the result is a Wednesday.

Where this comes from

Add a length of time to a date. Years and months are added first, keeping the day of the month or the last day of a shorter month. Weeks and days are then added as whole days.
