How to use

Where this comes from

Draw a line through or under text. One Unicode combining mark is placed after each visible character: U+0336 for a line through it, U+0332 for a line under it. Spaces and tabs get the mark. Line breaks do not. Limitations

  • The line is drawn by the app that shows the text, so it may look offset, uneven or be missing in some apps and fonts.
  • Screen readers may read the marks out, add pauses or skip them, so avoid it for text that must be accessible.
  • The result holds one extra hidden character, the mark, for every visible character. That counts against character limits and stops the text matching a search for the plain words.
  • The marked text is not turned back into plain text here, so keep your original.
  • Many apps do not draw the line over an emoji, so it can look unstruck.
  • Text longer than 5,000 characters is not accepted.
