Milliwatt Converters

Convert milliwatts to watts, microwatts, kilowatts, horsepower, BTU per hour and other power units.

What this tool does

Convert milliwatts to watts, microwatts, kilowatts, horsepower, BTU per hour and other power units. Type an amount in milliwatts, choose the units, and the tool converts it to watts. It offers 10 power units and also shows the same amount in the others.

Inputs

  • Value: A number.
  • From: Choose one from 10 options, including Milliwatt, Microwatt, Nanowatt, Watt, Kilowatt, Megawatt. Starts as Milliwatt.
  • To: Choose one of the same 10 units as "From". Starts as Watt.

How to use

  1. Enter the amount you want to convert.
  2. Choose the unit to convert from and the unit to convert to.
  3. Read the result: the converted amount and the same amount in the other units. It appears once every required field has a valid value.

Worked examples

Conversions from milliwatts to watts:

  • 1 mW = 0.001 W
  • 5 mW = 0.005 W
  • 10 mW = 0.01 W
  • 50 mW = 0.05 W
  • 100 mW = 0.1 W

Multiply the number of milliwatts by 0.001 to get watts. Both units are exact definitions, so 0.001 is the exact factor: 1 mW = 0.001 W.

Limitations

  • Converts units of power only. Decibel-milliwatts (dBm) are a logarithmic scale and are not included.
  • Does not convert to or from voltage or current.

FAQs

Q: How many watts is one milliwatt?
A: One milliwatt is 0.001 watt (one thousandth of a watt) or 1,000 microwatts.
Q: Is a milliwatt the same as a joule per second?
A: One milliwatt is 0.001 joule per second, since one watt is one joule per second.
Q: Does it convert to dBm?
A: No. dBm is a logarithmic scale and is not offered here.
