What this tool does
Convert between farads, statfarads, abfarads, microfarads, nanofarads, picofarads and other capacitance units. Type an amount in farads, choose the units, and the tool converts it to statfarads (ESU of capacitance). It offers 8 capacitance units and also shows the same amount in the others.
Inputs
- Value: A number.
- From: Choose one: Farad, Millifarad, Microfarad, Nanofarad, Picofarad, Femtofarad, Abfarad (EMU of capacitance), Statfarad (ESU of capacitance). Starts as Farad.
- To: Choose one of the same 8 units as "From". Starts as Statfarad (ESU of capacitance).
How to use
- Enter the amount you want to convert.
- Choose the unit to convert from and the unit to convert to.
- Read the result: the converted amount and the same amount in the other units. It appears once every required field has a valid value.
Worked examples
Conversions from farads to statfarads (ESU of capacitance):
- 1 F ≈ 898,755,178,737 statF
- 5 F ≈ 4.49377589368 × 10¹² statF
- 10 F ≈ 8.98755178737 × 10¹² statF
- 50 F ≈ 4.49377589368 × 10¹³ statF
- 100 F ≈ 8.98755178737 × 10¹³ statF
Multiply the number of farads by about 898,755,178,737 to get statfarads (ESU of capacitance). The factor follows from exact definitions. It has more digits than fit here, so it is shown rounded.

Limitations
- Converts the unit of a capacitance only. It does not work out capacitance from plate area, spacing or dielectric, and it does not combine capacitors in series or parallel.
- Abfarad and statfarad are historical CGS units, listed for completeness.
FAQs
- Q: What is a statfarad?
- A: The statfarad is the capacitance unit of the electrostatic CGS system. One statfarad is about 1.1127 × 10⁻¹² farad, which is roughly 1.1127 picofarads.
- Q: How many statfarads are in one farad?
- A: One farad is about 8.9876 × 10¹¹ statfarads. Pick farad as From and statfarad as To to see it for any value.
- Q: What is an abfarad?
- A: The abfarad is the capacitance unit of the electromagnetic CGS system. One abfarad is exactly 1,000,000,000 farads.
