Electric Conductance Converter

Convert electric conductance between siemens, millisiemens, microsiemens, nanosiemens, mhos and other units.

What this tool does

Convert electric conductance between siemens, millisiemens, microsiemens, nanosiemens, mhos and other units. Type an amount in siemens, choose the units, and the tool converts it to millisiemens. It offers 15 electrical conductance units and also shows the same amount in the others.

Inputs

  • Value: A number.
  • From: Choose one from 15 options, including Gigasiemens, Megasiemens, Kilosiemens, Siemens, Millisiemens, Microsiemens. Starts as Siemens.
  • To: Choose one of the same 15 units as "From". Starts as Millisiemens.

How to use

  1. Enter the amount you want to convert.
  2. Choose the unit to convert from and the unit to convert to.
  3. Read the result: the converted amount and the same amount in the other units. It appears once every required field has a valid value.

Worked examples

Conversions from siemens to millisiemens:

  • 1 S = 1,000 mS
  • 5 S = 5,000 mS
  • 10 S = 10,000 mS
  • 50 S = 50,000 mS
  • 100 S = 100,000 mS

Multiply the number of siemens by 1,000 to get millisiemens. Both units are exact definitions, so 1,000 is the exact factor: 1 S = 1,000 mS.

Limitations

  • Converts the unit of a conductance only. It does not work out conductance from resistance, current or voltage.
  • Abmho and statmho are historical CGS units, listed for completeness.

FAQs

Q: How many millisiemens is one siemens?
A: One siemens is 1,000 millisiemens and 1,000,000 microsiemens.
Q: Is a mho the same as a siemens?
A: Mho (℧) is the older name for the siemens, so 1 mho is exactly 1 siemens. The siemens is the modern SI name.
Q: Is conductance the same as conductivity?
A: No. Conductance (siemens) is a property of a particular piece of material or circuit. Conductivity (siemens per meter) is a property of the material itself, so use a conductivity converter for that.
Q: Does this show resistance in ohms?
A: No. This page converts between conductance units. Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance, so to get ohms from a conductance divide 1 by the conductance in siemens.
