What this checklist covers

The list has 3 groups and 9 items.

  • On arrival (5 items): Put luggage in the bathtub or on a luggage rack away from walls; Use a flashlight on mattress seams, piping and tags; Check the headboard, especially behind it if accessible; Inspect bed frame joints and nearby upholstered furniture; Look for rust-colored spots, shed skins or live bugs
  • If you find signs (2 items): Ask for a different room, ideally on a different floor and not adjacent; Re-inspect the new room before bringing luggage in
  • After the trip (2 items): Wash and dry all clothes on the hottest setting their labels allow; Vacuum your suitcase and store it sealed if possible
